Once you have set up your nginx streaming server, you will want to set it up so that only you can stream from it. That requires adding a couple of rules in your application in nginx.
In order to do that, you will need to edit the nginx.conf file. In Terminal, type:
$ sudo nano /usr/local/nginx/conf/nginx.conf
Go to your rtmp section and add the following rules to your application:
The allow directive here gives any device on your home network the ability to stream to your server. If you want to limit it to your local IP address, you can assign it.
However, you may want to assign the IP address to your source device on your router. While you're at it, assign you streaming server an IP address too.
The deny directive here blocks any device that does not match the allow rule. This directive must be written after the allow directive or you will block yourself as well.
Save your changes with Ctrl + O. Hit Enter, then hit Ctrl + X to leave the editor. Reload nginx with:
$ sudo /usr/local/nginx/sbin/nginx -s reload
Filter IP addresses to whitelist/blacklist viewers
Broadcast movie/music audio from VLC without including desktop/mic audio
